Effect of Pretreatments on Convective and Infrared Drying Kinetics, Energy Consumption and Quality of Terebinth

This study is focused on the influence of convective drying (50, 60, and 70 °C) infrared (IR) power (250, 500, 750 W) kinetics, specific energy consumption terebinth as well quality bioactive compounds upon various pretreatments such ultrasound (US), blanching (BL), microwave (MW). Compared to drying, IR decreased more time (SEC). Application higher powers air temperatures accelerated process at lower (SEC) efficiency moisture diffusion. Terebinth dried by a dryer 60 °C with US pretreatment showed better color compared other samples. It also exhibited polyphenol flavonoid content 145.35 mg GAE/g d.m. 49.24 QE/g d.m., respectively, variations 14.25 rehydration rate 3.17. The proposed methods significantly reduced consumption, from side it increased efficiency, compounds, samples (p < 0.01). Among different used, led best results in terms SEC, efficiency. preserving general appearance terebinth.
